Britax Raises the Bar on Car Seat Safety

Britax recently announced a complete redesign and re-launch of their entire convertible car seat line. Their new line offers “360 Degree Protection with Revolutionary Head Safety Technology.” What does this mean? The redesigned seats will dramatically reduce the risk of head injury and provide complete protection from all sides in the event of a crash.

Head injury is the leading cause of death for children up to 12 years old involved in vehicle crashes and comprises 65% of injuries in both frontal and side impact crashes, according to Child Injury Led Design and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In addition to simply making this new line of car seats easier to use for parents and caregivers, Britax focused on redesigning the line so the seats can help prevent real world injury in children due to vehicle crashes.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to Britax’s headquarters back in April to see this new technology. Only now can I share this exciting news with you. The changes made by Britax will reduce head excursion, the distance the head travels forward during a crash, and will certainly raise the bar for our industry. The Next Generation of Britax convertible car seats are due mid to late August.

To help prevent real world injuries, Britax sought to lower the child’s center of gravity, strengthen the child seat and manage crash energy.
  • A lower center of gravity – child is more stable in a crash.
  • Integrated steel bars - strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing in a crash
  • Britax SafeCell™ Technology – Honeycomb looking part under the child’s seat. Compresses in a crash to lower the center of gravity even more & fight forward rotation of the child seat.
  • Energy-Absorbing Versa-Tether® - Staged release tethered webbing minimizes forward rotation & reduces crash forces to the child
  • Deep side walls completely lined with EPP foam – Help distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, and contain the head, neck and body
  • Higher Weight Capacities – 5-40 lbs rear facing & up to 70 lbs forward facing

Britax not only made this next generation of car seats safer they are easier to use and install as well. They thought of the big and little things when improving their seats.

  • Latch connectors are non-handed – older models you needed to switch the Latch connectors from one side of the seat to the other when changing from rear to forward facing.
  • Easy access to belt paths from the front of the seat
  • Integrated lock-offs under the seat cover – ensure a tight lap/shoulder belt installation with minimal effort
  • Quick adjust head restraint
  • No-rethread harness (on all seats except Roundabout 55)
  • Multiple recline adjustments.
The new line of Britax Next Generation Convertible Car Seats are as follows:  Roundabout 55, Marathon 70, Boulevard 70, Boulevard CS 70 & Advocate 70 CS

Goore’s has some of the 1st samples of these seats on display now at our flagship store in Sacramento, CA. We also have a stripped down model (i.e. no cover) and a base (removed from the rest of the seat) to highlight the new safety and ease of use features. Inventory for ALL models is expected to arrive at the end of August. Come check out the latest in car seat safety.
