The term recall has a a negative stigma about it. Many "recalls" put out by manufacturers are simple fixes that don't actually need a complete replacement of the item, just a new pat or add on piece. This recall is a little different.
Please read the full release about the recall by clicking the link below. The issue is that the drop-side can detach from the crib, which can create a dangerous gap and lead to the entrapment and suffocation of infants. CPSC is aware of two deaths in Simplicity manufactured cribs with older style hardware, including a 9-month-old child and a 6-month-old child, where the drop-side was installed upside down. CPSC is also aware of seven infant entrapments and 55 incidents in these cribs.
This is the main reason why companies want you to register products when you purchase them new. Whenever there is a recall manufacturers will automatically contact anyone who has registered for that item. Take the time to register your purchases. Most companies will never do anything with your personal information other than contact you in the case of a recall or issue.
The full press release from CPSC can be read by clicking the link below. Please read it in detail to ensure you know what to do if you have one of the affected items.

ABC Kids Expo: Final
Here are the last of the photos I took. It was not as many as I had hoped as this trade show was MASSIVE. There were many things I was not able to get to. Needless to say, if any new products are making news or we try it out in the store and online and like it, I will let you know.
This group of photos does contain 2 of the coolest things I saw at the show. I will definitely be writing more about these in the future - The Roddler from Kid Kustoms & Sweet Peace from Graco.

Avent Room & bath thermometer

Sassy's Inspired by Nature collection of toys and teethers.

Skip Hop continues to be on the leading edge of fashion and design with their diaper bags. They have also expanded their collection of products to bedding. Skip Hop bedding is being produced by Banana Fish.

The makers of the Bumbo Seat have come out with a potty seat made from the same soft material.
Pure Joy car seat covers and stroller liners

The Learning Tower is going to offer additional colors to match up with today's latest kitchen and home decor fashions.

The Roddler from Kid Kustoms. At $2500 these are not for everyone but with complete customization options (Ostrich or alcantara seat and top coverings in a host of colors, flip down DVD screens, custom paint and pin stripping, and much, much more) your child can have the coolest customized ride on the block.

Sweetpeace from Graco is the ultimate infant soothing center. Mimics the side-to-side swaying motion people do when trying to sooth a crying baby. It also incorporates other features that work with baby's senses (touch, smell & sound) to help sooth. If your baby is comfortable in their car seat, Sweetpeace also accommodates the Graco Snugride and Safe Seat infant seats.

Graco Natural Habitat Metrolite Travel System
Graco Oasis Collection - Sweetpeace, Pack 'n Play (note the wood legs) & Soothe & Swaddle Soothing Seat. The Classic Wood High Chair was grouped with this collection as it is designed to complement your home's decor.
Graco Lexington Collection - this is a complete collection with swing and pack n play as well.
Dr. Browns glass bottles. No phalates! An alternative to the Evenflo Glass Nurser.

Britax Marathon Tan Swirl
ETA - mid/late October
ETA Jan, 2008
This is one of the coolest strollers I have seen in a couple years. The Peg Perego Skate. Accomodates the Primo Viaggio Infant Car Seat. Stroller includes bassinet and stroller seat that can be positioned either facing you or the world outside. For all thre there is a 3 level height adjustment. Nice, plush new fabrics. More info to come on this one!
Great new booster from Sunshine Kids. Goes from 30 to 100 lbs. Can accomodate a child over 5' tall. The shoulder area can be adjusted 3" wider with the turn of the dial on the back. Utilizes latch for stronger installation and can be tightened from the front of the seat. This one won't be arriving until early 2008.
Just a sampling of the really cool stuff from day one. Stay tuned fro more tomorrow.

The bebePod Plus - a new way for your child to sit
Review of bebePOD Plus by Prince Lionheart
Thursday, August 23, 2007
What a great review of a great product. This unique category of products began with the Bumbo Baby Sitter a couple years ago. This now seems to be a back and forth between these two manufacturers to better each other for category dominance.
Prince Lionheart followed Bumbo with the bebePod, which like the Bumbo was just the seat itself. Bumbo then came out with an attachable tray that fit over the pommel portion of the seat. Prince Lionheart then followed up again with the Bebe Pod Plus which is reviewed above. The Bebe Pod Plus has an attachable tray that also comes with a Great Sassy toy. In addition, the Bebe Pos Plus has cute tray covers which match up to products colors.
The bebPod Plus comes in two fun colors – Strawberry and Kiwi. The bebePod original (Sky Blue, Lilac & Sage) and the Bumbo Baby Sitter (Green, Yellow, Aqua, Blue & Lilac) are still available as well. All of these great products will serve the same purpose. It comes down to which one you think looks the best.

This review is for one of the most adorable and ingenious products on the market today. It is now my favorite infant product in my home, and I use it daily. The Bebe Pod Plus (from Prince Lionheart) is a "chair" for infants that are old enough to support their heads, but may not be able to sit all by themselves. It provides a way for them to sit up and be part of the world around them!
Tired of keeping my always-moving 7-month old in a car seat or swing (where he couldn't actively participate in our ongoing day), I was thrilled to find that the bebePOD kept him sitting comfortably upright in a "big boy" way, without stress to his little body. (My son is VERY small for his age -- only 13 pounds, so this chair was a miracle for us!)
In addition to the comfy soft seat, the bebePOD Plus outdoes itself with a new attachable tray with a super-fun Sassy toy that can be affixed! I also love that when the toy isn't in use, you can put one of the two easy-to-clean mats in place. This is perfect for feeding the little guy snacks. We have replaced our large highchair with this little chair for now. (NOTE: the bebePOD is not intended for use on raised surfaces -- baby could fall!)

Chicco continues to lead with innovation: The KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat
It's great when manufacturers continue to improve and not just sit back and rest on their laurels. Such is the case with Chicco and the KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat.
The original KeyFit infant car seat took over 2 years to hit the US market from when we first saw a prototype. After that period many products don't live up to their original hype. This was not the case with the original KeyFit infant car seat. With innovative features like their one pull latch tightening strap and newborn body support the KeyFit was (and still is) easy to use and very safe and comfortable for newborn babies. The original KeyFit infant car seat is still available in the Explorer and Iceberg patterns (will phase out in 08') and the newly released Manhattan pattern.
With the introduction of the 08' collections comes the KeyFit 30 infant car seat. Unlike other infant seats that accommodate infants over the typical 20-22 lbs., the KeyFit 30 is not any larger or heavier than the original version. Lightweight and easy to install, the KeyFit 30 boasts the widest weight range of any rear-facing infant car seat currently on the market, accommodating infants between 4 and 30 pounds.
The American Academy of Pediatrics, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and car seat safety advocates recommend that children ride rear-facing to the highest weight or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer, regardless of age. This position helps support an infant’s delicate neck and proportionately heavy head in crash situations.
According to NHTSA, 80 percent of parents are installing their baby’s seat incorrectly. The KeyFit 30 offers parents peace of mind and ease of installation, featuring one-hand adjustment and bubble-level guides that clearly indicate when the seat is installed at the correct angle.
The Chicco KeyFit 30 is available in 3 exciting new patterns, Race, Atmosphere & Adventure and is compatible with the Chicco stroller models Trevi, S3, and Cortina.
