BOB Special!!!

BOB is a company that strives to create revolutionary innovation. They work hard to create great products that bring more freedom to those that love getting out into the natural world. It’s that simple really. Commit to quality and the rest falls in to place. Don’t rush to be the first, innovate to be the best. These are the same standards BOB began with 17 years ago.

Originally, the name of the company was Beast of Burden, which many thought was a burden unto itself. However, in typical California fashion, that mouthful was soon shortened to its acronym BOB. “BOB is easier to spell, funny and simple,” co-owner Roger Malinowski explains.

The Britax Stroller Squad: B-AGILE

B-AGILE is the newest addition to the Britax stroller squad. He wanted to join so bad that he trained day after day, watch his training video here! B-AGILE is energetic and athletic, he loves getting dirty! Take him on hikes, camping, or on fun off roading trips, be sure to take along his available UV mosquito net to keep your kiddo from getting bitten or sunburned.

B-AGILE stays fit and light (only 16.5 lbs) by doing 50 sit ups a day; his awesome flexibility gives him a great one-handed quick fold function. His frame is designed for stride clearance and his three wheel suspension creates a very smooth ride. Like his stroller squad buddies, B-AGILE comes with an attachment to hold an infant seat and an extended sun canopy. He also has infinite seat recline positions, allowing a wiped out kiddo to take a snooze after a long day. Read B-AGILE’s personal profile here!

The Britax Stroller Squad: B-NIMBLE

B-NIMBLE is light and sporty. He loves to fly (his secret wish is to be a hang glider actually) and to travel with the family. He is great at doing errands and loves to ride in the car as well. Though he only weighs 13 lbs, B-NIMBLE does a lot that other strollers his size can’t do. He has a green belt in karate and can carry up to 55 lbs. He also has attachments that allow him to carry most major infant car seat brands! With B-NIMBLE you can have it all: sun canopy, rain shield, large under seat storage compartment, multiple position recline, all wheel suspension, even an adult cup holder; so you don’t have to sacrifice convenience to shed a few pounds. B-NIMBLE is so light, he can be carried over a shoulder with the included shoulder carry strap. B-NIMBLE enjoys leisurely strolls (with B-SCENE perhaps?) and playing sports with his stroller squad pals. Read more about B-NIMBLE in his personal profile here.

The Britax Stroller Squad: B-READY

B-READY is a planner and, like her name, is ready for anything with her infant car seat adaptor, sun canopy, rain shield, removable storage bag with insulated drink holders, and adult cup holder. B-READY has as many available accessories as (and even a few more than)the B-SCENE, and the B-READY finds the most unique ways to use them.

Check out all of her amazing configurations! She loves bird watching and stocks her bird feeders daily using her cup holders. Her all wheel suspension provides a nice smooth ride while on nature walks and at the zoo. She also has adjustable handle height so she is prepared for anyone who wants to push her around. B-READY is the only stroller squad member capable of accommodating more than one child, it must be the planner in her. Read her personal profile here!

Introducing the Britax Stroller Squad: B-SCENE

The Drama Queen of the squad, B-SCENE, loves theater, dance, and anything fancy. Though always in fashion, B-SCENE is not afraid of dressing down to play a game of soccer as long as B-NIMBLE is on the field. Your little one can enjoy facing you or the world around them in a reversible and reclining seat.

B-SCENE will be your child’s own personal carriage to elegantly parade them around town and shade them from the sun with the extended canopy and sun shade. Her front third wheel provides improved steering and maneuverability and she has all wheel suspension for the smoothest ride available. Her handle height is adjustable to suit either parent, so she is a great compromise for a tall and short couple.

Every fashonista has to have accessories; B-SCENE comes with a rain shield and infant car seat adaptor that works with many major infant car seat brands. She also has lots of under carriage storage space so you can bring all of your little star’s accessories along with you too.

Summer Travel Series: Traveling with Baby

Thanks for checking back in with our Summer Travel Series! We will be talking about the latest and greatest gear and accessories for traveling with different age groups. One essential for traveling with your little one is a stroller. It does not count as a carry on item because you can check it at the gate. Get to the airport even a little bit earlier than you would with out baby so you have plenty of time to get through security. You will have to take baby out and lift the stroller onto the security check point belt. The best strollers for travel are the ones that convert, but are also light weight and compact. The Cybex Onyx Stroller and Infant Seat as well as the Orbit Baby (see our review for more info on this amazing set up) are both excellent for this. A baby carrier, such as Ergo, Baby Bjorn, or Cybex is also a good idea for holding a fussy baby hands free while walking and sight seeing.

One thing we found to bother baby while traveling is pressure changes. Their little ears are very sensitive and if baby seems uncommonly fussy when you feel pressure changes, this is the likely cause. Help them by allowing them to nurse (only if on a plane with baby in your lap, never drive without baby secured in their car seat), drink from a bottle, or suck on a pacifier. Pack baby’s bottles, milk, snacks, and jarred food in a Pack n Protect, keep it toward the top for easy check in at security (they will allow you to take them on the plane but they have to screen each bottle first). For easy spoon feeding on the plane, try the Munchkin Easy Squeezy Spoon.

Dressing baby in layers is a good idea for travel. Also bring along a couple of swaddle blankets for multipurpose use (keeping baby wrapped warmly and comfortably, as a burp cloth, and for emergency diapering purposes). Make sure to bring along babies favorite lovie (if they don’t already have a comfort item, now might be the time to choose one, but buy a few of the same if you can and rotate through them: Little Giraffe, Miyim, Angel Dear, and Taggies are all great options). Usually you can fit a few baby toys in your diaper bag, but as baby gets bigger and needs more entertainment, bring along a spare “toy bag” or backpack just for baby. Skip Hop has cute designs that are the perfect size. I like to link all of baby’s toys together (especially during the fun “I can throw things? Cool!” stage) using teething links. Some good items to link up are a set of keys, stroller toys, and a teether.

Speaking of diaper bags, you are likely going to need to put yours in the overhead compartment. For convenience, stash a quick change kit containing a few diapers, wipes, and a built in changing pad under the seat along with baby’s feeding items (or your nursing cover, which makes a good blanket as well). Also keep a pack of Grime Fighting Wipes on hand in your quick change kit for wiping down the table tray and anything else baby might touch (so, everything around you pretty much). After flying many times with my now 18 month old, these three items are all I carry with us on the plane (I stash my tiny purse in his backpack as soon as we take out a few toys). I like to hook them all together and just pick up what I need rather than rummage through a large diaper bag.

With these handy items, traveling with baby can be a breeze rather than a hassle. Check back in for the next installment in our Summer Travel Series: Traveling with Younger Children (3-5 year olds) featuring the Melissa and Doug Trunki Ride on Suitcase!

Orbit Baby: Not Just Another Stroller Travel System

If you are like me, you had a million well meaning people giving you conflicting advice about the newest and best baby gear, and all of them feel their way is the only way! “Baby should face you in their stroller!” “No! Baby should get to see the world!” With the Orbit Baby G2 System, you can appease the masses and do it your own way (depending on baby’s mood of course) all at the same time! With its state of the art ergonomic design and easily interchangeable seating options and accessories, you will never want for a different stroller or car seat.

This company has seriously thought of everything! Basically, you have one stroller base and a car seat base (or bases if you have more than one car) and the infant seat, bassinet/pram, stroller seat, toddler seat all fit on the same bases! There is even a cradle base to rock your little one away to sleep in, which means you will have less "wake the baby, it is time to go" moments. Baby can forward face or rear face, sit up or recline in the stroller seat. Toddler is snoozing away in their car seat? No worries! Snap the whole seat on instead of the stroller seat! There are also many accessory options that help make traveling a snap and you would not believe how compactly the frame and stroller attachment folds up to be! Check out this other blog post about easy air travel with the Orbit Baby system.

Ever hear the saying, “you get what you pay for”? With Orbit Baby, their unique design is not the only thing you are paying for. They only use Oeko-Tex certified fabrics and foams that also adhere to the strictest guidelines and standards chemical safety and flame retardancy. The goal in creating Orbit Baby was to make greener and safer baby gear. They have succeeded in providing peace of mind with the orbitgreen™: eco-certified program.

For those of us “matchy matchy” moms (yup, all my kiddos stuff is Lime Green) Orbit Baby just introduced Color Packs! Interchangeable upholstery for the G2 stroller seat to suit your mood! We will have them in the showroom for you to see soon!

Check out all the awesome options offered by Orbit Baby here at Goore’s:
- Travel System Starter Kit (Includes Stroller Frame, Infant Seat, and Car Base – Everything you need to start)
- Toddler Car seat (works with same stroller and car seat base)
- Stroller System (Seat and Frame) or Stroller Seat (without frame for those who already have starter travel system)
- SideKick Skate Board attachments (for older walking children to hitch a ride on)
- First PVC free rain shields for car seat and strollers

Customize Your Baby's Ride with Teutonia

I just read a fantastic review of Teutonia strollers on Celebrity Baby Blog, by one of their Fashion & Gear reviewers, Stephanie. She really hit on all the exciting point about Teutonia strollers and how they can be designed just for you and your baby.

We have been selling Teutonia in our store ever since they came the the US. We love the brand as a whole and can proudly stand behind the product. They offer a 3 year warranty (3x longer than most brands) on all their German engineered products. Yes that sounds like a BMW line but like them or not, BMW makes a great product as well and is German engineered.

The review has one minor error, you can now customize and purchase your Teutonia stroller and accessories from Goore's - www.goores.com/teutonia. I guess they weren't really wrong. The review was most likely written before last week when we were approved to go live with our Teutonia stroller customization module (whew, that's a mouthful).

The Teutonia line of strollers introduces a whole new way for your baby to ride. Or is it a whole new way for you to shop for strollers? A little bit of both, really.

Unlike most stroller systems where you have to just take what you’re given, the Teutonia line is completely customizable. From the color of the seat to the style of the wheels — and everything in between — choices are both plentiful and practical. Let’s say you’re shopping for a toddler… well, you don’t need a bassinet so why pay for one? So skip it. Like girly colors, but might have a boy in the future? Get a neutral seat color and embellish it with a flowery cushion. You even have three chassis choices so you can select one that will be most appropriate for your lifestyle.

CPSIA: Ever Heard About it?

I have been holding off on posting about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) as it has been a nightmare to understand. There has been a huge debate brewing over how to interpret this law and how it will effect manufacturers and retailers of baby and juvenile products.

Created in an effort to stop the flow of children's goods carelessly made with high levels of toxins, it is a poorly conceived piece of legislation with not thought about the ramifications to an entire industry. This law is affecting large manufacturers of strollers, car seats and baby furniture down to the mom and pop size companies selling their invention out of their garage. While the large companies can pay their lawyers to ensure company compliance the small and even mid-size companies will struggle with compliance. Many will simply choose to close up shop instead of pay for the testing to be compliant.

US Senator, Jim DeMint (South Carolina) posted a grat summation of the law on Real Clear Politics today. I have re-posted his article as it is succinct and easy to understand. Should you have a lot of extra time on your hands and easily understand the overly technical, legaleze style of writing than Click Here.

Congress Turns Toy Story into Nightmare for Small Business

By Jim DeMint

In a mad rush to "do something" last fall about the lead paint scare involving children's toys, Congress hastily passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. Today that law goes into effect, and its unintended - but entirely foreseeable - consequences have begun to threaten our already fragile economy.

CPSIA was meant to protect children from careless or unscrupulous Chinese toy manufacturers, but its ultimate function may be to stifle competition in the domestic market for children's goods. The legislation requires expensive tests - for lead and other toxins - be conducted on all products marketed to children under the age of 12, and imposes cumbersome rules to be followed. Big companies with large legal teams and regulatory compliance staffs - foreign and domestic - can afford such tests and follow these rules without much difficulty.

But the CPSIA makes no distinction between such businesses and consignment shops, thrift stores, and small manufacturing companies. Under the new law, even stay-at-home moms selling baby blankets and headbands online would be vulnerable to fines and lawsuits for not conducting the expensive tests or filling out "Form XYZ" in triplicate.

Riding a wave of outrage and media attention, opportunistic advocates of big government convinced Congress that only such a sweeping, one-size-fits-all bill could possibly "protect the children." Consumer and environmentalist groups seized the "lead scare" to push for increased regulations across the board, and now the law may prove as harmful as the danger it was designed the thwart.

My office has been bombarded with phone calls and letters from people from around the country concerned about how this law will affect their livelihood. Companies large and small that were looking to expand and hire more employees are being forced to rethink their business plans now that CPSIA stands in the way.

And just last week, a federal judge sided with environmental and consumer groups in overturning the law's timeline. Rather than allowing for any grace period during which the children's products industry could adjust to the new rules, everyone - even granny knitting her stocking caps - is vulnerable to lawsuits and fines right now.

Worried about just these kinds of problems, I was one of three senators to vote against the original bill last year. Our products - especially children's toys - must be safe, but I believe free-market solutions offer better ways to protect public health while allowing small businesses and second-hand stores to compete.

This past month I drafted legislation that would postpone for six months the effective date of the new regulations, giving all parties involved the chance to find a workable solution - the common good has to include common sense.

My legislation (S. 374) would cut back on duplicative and wasteful testing, while continuing to ensure safety needs are met. After all, if the materials a small manufacturer buys from a large supplier have already been tested, there is no reason to test the final products as well.

It would also exempt thrift stores, yard sales, consignment shops and other re-sellers from being forced to meet unwarranted requirements and remove the threat of retroactive repercussions for selling items already produced under previous rules. That way makers of homemade goods and local manufacturers can stay in business and aren't stuck with un-sellable items already in stock.

Finally, my legislation would instruct the Consumer Product Safety Commission - the agency charged with enforcing CPSIA - to develop a plain-English compliance guide so that even companies without a team of lawyers on staff can understand and follow the rules.

No one can deny that the protection of our children from harmful toxins is of utmost importance, but CPSIA as currently written does more harm than good. Not only will it limit the range of children's products available in the marketplace, it will remove the opportunity to purchase them through less traditional and less expensive venues. And it will stifle market competition at the very moment we need it most.

Protecting children from toy toxins is a good idea, but we need to do it the right way - to make sure there are still jobs waiting for them when they grow up.

Don't let the airlines damage your car seat or stroller!

I received a call from one of my friends the other day telling me how frustrated he was with the airline they flew on for their recent summer trip. He went on to tell me that their new stroller they just got from Goore's is now damaged. It is still usable but the frame has a dent and the seat is dirtier than before. I was tempted to say I told you so (which I actually had done in the past) but I refrained. When they go on their next trip during the holiday season they will be using both a car seat and a stroller bag to protect their purchases.

The airline restrictions are not cut and dry. Most airlines have you sign a form stating that they are not liable for any damage they may cause to your stroller or car seat when it is checked (at the curb, counter or gate). Some do and some don't. Some simply forget for various reasons. Using travel bags for car seats and strollers will not only protect your purchases but also, in some cases, allow these items to be checked without signing a waiver. I am not sure if you will have a reliable argument should the airlines damage your merchandise but it certainly can't hurt. I just completed an extensive search to find what many of the leading airlines state on their websites regarding . For many there is not a clear cut and dry answer. The information is difficult to find if it is there at all. My suggestion is to call and find out where you can get it in writing. Here are a few of the websites I looked at.

American Airlines states"American is not responsible for damage to any stroller not properly packed in original packaging." That tells me unless it is in a box the hasn't been opened they are not responsible. They have info on car seats as well. For more precise information from American Airlines, Click here then scroll down to Infant Seat or Child Restraint Devices.

Southwest Airlines does not say anything specific on their website about waiving responsibility for damage but I know 1st hand they have you sign their waiver releasing them of responsibility for damage when checking your car seat or stroller. For information on these items when flying Southwest click here.

Continental does have a pretty clear explanation of responsibility when checking strollers, "Continental is not liable for damage to strollers." They do not mention that for car seats though. They count strollers and car seats as regular baggage which falls into the same size and weight restrictions. For more detailed information on Continental's guidelines click here.

These are just a few examples. It is advised to take the time to check the airline you are flying to completely understand their terms and conditions when checking car seats and strollers.

As recommended earlier, you should get a travel bag for your car seats and strollers when you check them. A number of stroller and car seat companies have their own versions that fit their specific products perfectly such as - Bob Joggers, Phil & Ted's E3 Sport Buggy, Bugaboo (Bee, Cameleon/Frog), Stokke Xplory, Sunshine Kids Radian & Compass Booster. If your stroller or car seat does not have a specifically designed bag don't worry. We have many great options for you. Here is a list of our favorites:

Car Seats

Strollers

There are other options as well but these are the best sellers. You may be done with your Summer travel but the holidays will creep up on you quickly. Make sure you protect your investments so you can continue to use them well into the future.

The Unity Sport Lightweight Twin: Like pushing a single!

July 05, 2007
The Unity Sport Lightweight Twin: Like pushing a single!

The Unity Sport Lightweight Twin Stroller by Baby Planet is an attractive twin that comes jam-packed with features -- both obvious and subtle -- which ultimately add up to a very pleasant strolling experience. The manufacturer boasts that its patented 'Easy-Steer' handle will improve maneuverability over traditional double strollers and -- yes -- it most certainly does! Steering the Unity Sport Twin is almost distracting, because your mind tells you to start turning way before you actually need to; The stroller reacts that well to changes in direction, and you really can steer it just as you would a single. We also appreciated the Unity Sport Twin's placement of its center-rear wheel -- a feature Baby Planet calls 'Room To Walk' -- in an effort to give walkers enough room to extend their stride without constantly kicking that rear wheel.

This review from the Celebrity Baby Blog is right on! The Unity Sport definately has some unique features not found on other twin side-by-side strollers on the market. It also fits nicely in the under $300 price range compared to the Maclaren Twin Techno at over $400 and even the Peg Aria which is just over the $300 price point. Like all strollers with unique features, you need to get used to the feautres before their functionality becomes 2nd nature for you.

One really cool feature of Baby Planet is their recycling program. It is not fully functioning yet but when it is you will be able to go to thier website and download a shipping label to ship your old Baby Planet stroller back to them "free of charge." They will then do one of 2 things: (1) Clean it up and fix anyhting that needs fixing then donate it to charity, or (2) Disassemble the stroller and all the metal, fabric and plastic parts of your old stroller will be recycled. 100% of their strollers are recyclable.

We carry all three colors of the Baby Planet Unity Sport at Goore's. Click Here to check them out!
